Samsung’s Bixby assistant is designed to make your smartphone experience smarter, faster, and more intuitive. However, for many users, accidental activations or unwanted voice wake-ups can be more of a distraction than a convenience. If you prefer to manage your phone manually or use other assistants like Google Assistant, you can easily turn off the Bixby key and disable voice wake. AvNexo walks you through the steps below to help you regain full control of your Samsung device.
Bixby is integrated into Samsung phones to allow quick access to voice commands, device settings, and contextual information. But sometimes, it activates unintentionally — for example, when pressing the side button or saying “Hi, Bixby.”
Turning off these triggers can:
Prevent accidental Bixby launches
Reduce background battery usage
Free up your side key for other functions
Provide a smoother, interruption-free experience
Whether you own a Galaxy S25, S24, or an earlier model, the following steps apply to most modern Samsung devices running One UI.
Go to Settings → Advanced Features → Side Key.
Under Press and Hold, select Power Off Menu instead of Wake Bixby.
Under Double Press, you can choose Quick Launch Camera or Open App — whichever you prefer.
This completely removes Bixby activation from the side button.
Open the Bixby app.
Tap the Menu (three dots) → Settings.
Under Bixby Key, select Double Press to Open Bixby or Don’t Open Anything.
Choosing “Don’t Open Anything” ensures Bixby no longer launches when the key is pressed accidentally.
Bixby Voice Wake listens in the background for the wake command (“Hi, Bixby”). Disabling it stops the assistant from activating automatically.
Open the Bixby App.
Tap the Menu icon (three dots) in the top-right corner → Settings.
Select Voice Wake-Up.
Toggle Off both options:
Wake with “Hi, Bixby”
Use Voice Wake-Up while the screen is off
Now, Bixby will no longer respond to voice commands unless manually opened.
If you also want to remove Bixby from your home screen:
Touch and hold an empty area on the Home Screen.
Swipe right to access Samsung Free or Bixby Home.
Toggle it Off at the top of the screen.
This stops Bixby from showing news feeds or content suggestions.
To prevent Bixby-related prompts from appearing:
Go to Settings → Apps → Bixby Voice → Notifications → Turn Off.
Check for any background activity:
Settings → Battery and Device Care → Background Usage Limits → Add Bixby to “Sleeping Apps.”
This ensures Bixby won’t start itself automatically in the background.
Disabling the Bixby key and voice wake feature on your Samsung device is simple and can make your phone more responsive to your preferences. By following AvNexo’ clear guide, you can prevent unwanted activations, extend battery life, and create a more streamlined Android experience. Whether you prefer using Google Assistant or no assistant at all, Samsung gives you full control over your side key and voice activation settings.
