From a PC or another phone, open Google’s Find My Device (sign in with the same Google account used on the phone).
Select the device in the list.
Use Play Sound (if nearby), Secure Device (lock with a message), or Erase Device.
Erase Device will factory reset the phone remotely — this removes the lock but erases all data on the device.
After erasing, you’ll need to sign in to the same Google account to pass Factory Reset Protection (FRP).
Note: This requires the locked phone to be online. If it’s offline, the erase will run once it reconnects.
Try approaches that don’t require the lock code: bring the phone to a trusted Bluetooth device (paired smartwatch/car), or to a trusted Wi‑Fi/location if you previously enabled Smart Lock.
If fingerprint or face unlock is enabled, use that.
Some devices offer a backup PIN or Google account recovery prompt after several failed attempts. Try to follow on‑screen recovery options.
Settings → System → Reset options → Erase all data (factory reset)
Confirm and wait for the phone to erase and reboot.
Or — Recovery Mode (when phone is unresponsive or you cannot enter settings):
Power off the phone.
Press and hold Power + Volume Down (or the device‑specific key combo) to enter the bootloader.
Choose Recovery mode.
Select Wipe data / Factory reset.
Reboot.
Important: After factory reset you will usually be required to sign in with the Google account previously used on the phone (FRP). If you don’t know that account, you will not be able to use the device until you recover those credentials.
Use Google’s account recovery tools to regain access to your Google account (recover via email or phone).
After regaining the Google account, you can use Find My Device or complete device setup after a reset.
I can’t assist with bypassing the lock. If you found a phone, turn it in to local authorities or the carrier. If you purchased a used device and it’s locked, contact the seller.
If the device is yours and none of the above work:
Contact Motorola support or your carrier. They can advise authorized service steps.
Be prepared to provide proof of purchase / ownership (receipt, IMEI number), and a photo ID — authorized service centers will help with legitimate unlock/reset procedures.
Do you remember the Google account email used on the phone? If yes → try Google account recovery.
Is the phone online? If yes → use Find My Device to erase.
Is Smart Lock or biometrics enabled? Try those.
If nothing works and the phone is yours → Factory reset (will erase data), then sign in with the same Google account.
