If Bixby keeps popping up on your Samsung phone, you’re not alone. Here’s the exact U.S. & Canada method I use to fully disable Bixby, remove the side-key trigger, stop voice activation, and silence every background shortcut.
I’ve used almost every Galaxy device released in North America over the past few years, and the first thing I usually disable is Bixby. Even if you never intentionally open it, Bixby loves showing up after an accidental Side Key press or a random voice wake-up. The steps below are the same ones I personally follow on my S24 Ultra and A55 (Canadian variant), and they also work for U.S. carrier-locked models.

What You Can Disable (and What You Can't)
On U.S. & Canadian Samsung models, you can disable nearly everything Bixby does:
- Side Key → no longer opens Bixby
- Bixby Voice → completely turned off
- Wake-up phrase (“Hi Bixby”) → disabled
- Bixby Home / Bixby Suggestions → removed or hidden
1. Disable the Bixby Side Key (Single & Long Press)
This is the main reason Bixby keeps showing up. I always start here because the Side Key behavior is different depending on region and carrier.
Steps:
- Open Settings.
- Go to Advanced features.
- Select Side key.
- Change Press and hold → Power off menu.
- (Optional) Change Double press → Open app and choose anything except Bixby.
Human note: On my Canadian S24 Ultra, the “Side key” menu appeared instantly, but on my U.S. AT&T model it took a second to load — probably carrier customizations.
2. Turn Off Bixby Voice Completely
If voice activation is still on, Bixby can wake even if the Side Key is disabled. This caught me by surprise the first time — the phone kept activating while it was in my hoodie pocket.
Steps:
- Open the Bixby app (search “Bixby” in the app drawer).
- Tap the Menu (≡) in the top-right.
- Go to Settings.
- Disable Voice wake-up.
- Disable Use while phone locked.
- Turn off Continued conversation if available.
Common pitfall: Some users forget the “Use while phone locked” toggle. If that stays on, Bixby might still trigger hands-free.
3. Disable “Hi Bixby” Wake Phrase
This is the second voice trigger. It feels harmless, but I’ve had it activate from YouTube videos more than once.
Steps:
- Open Bixby → Settings.
- Tap Voice wake-up.
- Turn off Wake with “Hi Bixby”.
Test tip: After disabling it, say “Hi Bixby” once. If nothing pops up, you’re good.
4. Disable Bixby on the Power Off Menu (U.S. Carriers)
Some U.S. carrier firmware pushes Bixby into the power menu. It’s subtle but annoying. You can switch it back manually.
Steps:
- Press and hold Side Key.
- Tap the Power icon in the corner.
- Open Side key settings.
- Select Power off menu.
This varies a little on Verizon and T-Mobile models — the button sometimes appears in a different location. I had to look twice on my T-Mobile S23.
5. Remove or Hide Bixby from the Home Screen
Older Samsung models (A-series & S-series pre-One UI 6) sometimes show Bixby Home when swiping right. Newer models use Samsung Discover instead.
Steps:
- Long-press on the Home Screen.
- Swipe left.
- Disable Bixby Home or Samsung Discover.
On One UI 6 and 6.1, Bixby Home rarely shows up—but I’ve still seen it on Canadian A-series devices.
6. Optional: Disable Bixby Routines (If Enabled)
Bixby Routines isn’t really “Bixby Voice,” but some automation depends on Bixby modules. If you want everything gone:
Steps:
- Go to Settings → Modes and Routines.
- Turn off any Routines using Bixby actions.
I occasionally keep Routines because they’re actually useful — unlike the voice assistant.
Final Check: Is Bixby Fully Disabled?
After finishing all steps, test these:
- Press and hold the Side Key → should show power menu.
- Say “Hi Bixby” → nothing should happen.
- Open Bixby manually → must stay silent unless tapped.
- Accidental side pressing → no random Bixby pop-up.
