How to Remove, Turn Off, or Disconnect Bixby – Full 2025 Guide (U.S. & Canada)
A complete 2025 guide showing how to remove, turn off, or disconnect Bixby on Samsung phones. Covers Side Key, Bixby Voice, wake phrase, routines, and hidden triggers for U.S. & Canadian models.
I’ve lost count of how many times Bixby opened on my Galaxy just because my finger brushed the Side Key. If you’re like me and prefer the phone without Samsung’s assistant jumping in, this 2025 guide walks through every method I personally use on my S24 Ultra (U.S.) and A55 (Canada) to shut Bixby down for good. Some carrier models still keep the core app installed, but you can disable every trigger until it practically disappears.
What “Removing” Bixby Really Means in 2025
Samsung no longer allows full uninstallation on most carrier firmware (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Rogers, Bell, Telus). But you can:
- Turn off all Bixby Voice features
- Disable Side Key activation
- Stop “Hi Bixby” wake phrase
- Remove Bixby from home screen panels
- Block background suggestions
1. Turn Off the Side Key Bixby Shortcut
This is the number one cause of accidental Bixby pop-ups. I always start here because U.S. models tend to re-enable it after certain updates.
Steps:
- Open Settings.
- Go to Advanced features.
- Select Side key.
- Set Press and hold → Power off menu.
- Optional: Change Double press to open any app other than Bixby.
Human note: On my U.S. S23, the Side Key menu lagged for about half a second — likely because of carrier customizations.
2. Disable Bixby Voice Completely
Turning off Bixby Voice stops most background activation. On older devices, this setting is tucked deeper, and I remember spending a minute trying to find it on an A52 5G.
Steps:
- Open the Bixby app.
- Tap the Menu (≡).
- Select Settings.
- Turn off Voice wake-up.
- Turn off Use while phone locked.
- Disable Response when spoken to (if available).
Pitfall: Some devices keep “Use while phone locked” enabled by default — and Bixby still wakes even after you think you disabled it.
3. Turn Off the “Hi Bixby” Wake Phrase
Even if you never say “Hi Bixby,” videos or a noisy room can accidentally trigger it. I've had it happen more than once while playing YouTube reviews.
Steps:
- Open Bixby → Settings.
- Select Voice wake-up.
- Disable Wake with “Hi Bixby”.
Quick test: Say “Hi Bixby” after disabling. If nothing happens, you're set.
4. Remove Bixby from the Home Screen (2025 Behavior)
In One UI 6 and 6.1, Bixby Home is mostly replaced by Samsung Discover. But in Canada, some A-series models still show Bixby panels.
Steps:
- Long-press the Home Screen.
- Swipe left.
- Toggle off Bixby Home or Samsung Discover.
I noticed Canada variants sometimes don’t show the toggle immediately — swiping left once usually makes it appear.
5. Disable Bixby in the Power Menu (U.S. Carrier Models)
Certain U.S. carriers connect Bixby to the power menu, but it’s easy to remove.
Steps:
- Press and hold the Side Key.
- Tap the Power icon on the screen.
- Open Side key settings.
- Select Power off menu.
On my Verizon S24, the power icon was tiny and off to the right — easy to miss.
6. Disconnect Bixby Routines (Optional)
Bixby Routines can run automations tied to voice commands. If you want the cleanest Bixby-free setup:
Steps:
- Go to Settings → Modes and Routines.
- Disable any routine using Bixby actions.
I keep one routine for Wi-Fi rules because it doesn’t rely on Bixby Voice, but your preference may differ.
7. Disable All Bixby App Permissions
This doesn’t uninstall Bixby, but turning off permissions prevents background calls and context suggestions.
Steps:
- Open Settings → Apps.
- Find Bixby Voice and Bixby Service.
- Open each one and tap Permissions.
- Set everything to Deny.
- Turn off Appear on top and Change system settings if they appear.
On my Canadian A35, “Appear on top” was hidden under “Advanced” — easy to overlook.
8. Final 2025 Test Checklist
Run through these quickly:
- Press & hold Side Key → must open power menu
- Say “Hi Bixby” → no response
- Swipe left on home screen → no Bixby panel
- Open Bixby manually → no automatic voice prompt
