FaceTime is Apple’s native video and audio calling app that works seamlessly across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Whether you’re in the U.S. or Canada, setting up FaceTime lets you stay connected with friends, family, and coworkers effortlessly. Here’s how to get started.
Open Settings → FaceTime.
Toggle FaceTime On.
Sign in with your Apple ID if you’re not already logged in.
Under You Can Be Reached By FaceTime At, select your phone number and email addresses.
Enable Caller ID if you want your number or Apple ID to show when calling.
Open the FaceTime app from the Applications folder or Dock.
Sign in using the same Apple ID as your iPhone.
Go to FaceTime → Settings (or Preferences).
Make sure both your phone number and email are checked under “You can be reached for FaceTime at.”
Enable Calls from iPhone to answer or make calls from your Mac when your iPhone is nearby.
Ensure both your iPhone and Mac are signed into the same Apple ID and connected to Wi-Fi.
On iPhone: Go to Settings → Phone → Calls on Other Devices → Allow Calls on Mac.
On Mac: In FaceTime settings, check Calls from iPhone to complete the sync.
On iPhone: Open the Phone or FaceTime app → Tap New FaceTime → Enter a name, number, or email.
On Mac: Open FaceTime → Enter contact info → Click Video or Audio.
You can also start calls from Messages by clicking the FaceTime icon next to a contact.
In North America, many people use FaceTime Links for meetings:
Open the FaceTime app → Create Link.
Share it via Messages, Mail, or Calendar.
Anyone with an Apple or web browser device can join instantly.
For the best experience, use Wi-Fi or 5G, keep your devices updated to iOS 18 or macOS Sequoia, and enable Center Stage or Portrait Mode for a more professional video look on your calls.
